Feast of Corpus Christi !

Posted: May 25, 2008 by piusranson in Uncategorized

Today, the One, holy, catholic and apostolic Church, celebrates the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

At every single Mass, every single day, throughout the world, the host will be consecrated.

This has been done every single day ever since the day where Jesus sat at the table with his disciples.

We believe in the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. In the consecrated host, it turns into Jesus, the lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world. The eucharist don’t represent Jesus. It is Jesus.

Let us first read today’s Gospel passage

John 6:51-58

51I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats of this bread will live for ever; and the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.’

52 The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, ‘How can this man give us his flesh to eat?53So Jesus said to them, ‘Very truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood have eternal life, and I will raise them up on the last day; 55for my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink. 56Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood abide in me, and I in them. 57Just as the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever eats me will live because of me. 58This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like that which your ancestors ate, and they died. But the one who eats this bread will live for ever.’

Apart from this passage, let us now see the other passages.

While they were eating, Jesus took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and giving it to his disciples said, “Take and eat; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, gave thanks and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you, or this is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed on behalf of many for the forgiveness of sins. ( Matthew 26:26-28 )

For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes. Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord unworthily will have to answer for the body and blood of the Lord.  A person should examine himself and so eat the bread and drink the cup.  For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body, eats and drinks judgment on himself. ( 1 Cor 11:26-29)

Just mere representation ? Just mere memorial ? I guess not.

Life in the Polytechnic

Posted: May 23, 2008 by piusranson in Uncategorized

Polytechnics are the new JCs manz.

To everyone out there: You think polytechnic life is an easy life? Dream on.

Well, not sure of other schools but the School of Business @ SP, is for sure not an easy one. I’m sure most of my classmates agree. =). Maybe one or two who have low EQ, would disagree with me. I’m just wondering how some of the lecturers get their job. Assigning project work without themselves knowing what to do ? Hmm, if only i have the chance to talk to SB’s Director.

Every single morning, i have been waking up at 5.20am, reaching SP at 7.32am approximately. There was never a day which i didn’t doze off in the train. I believe that the train’s movement indeed have some therapeutic effect which induces you to sleep! Once, i even missed Dover station and ended up at Clementi Station. Anyway, my cell phone’s alarm doesn’t seems to be able to wake me up! It is always always my Dad who wakes me up.

Project work isn’t something that I’m used to and something that everyone likes. But do take note that projects would never stop until the end of three years. We just have to live with it. Have group members that you don’t work with you? Forgive them. Love them. Love each other as it is supposed to be. No one is perfect, isn’t it ? I realised i have been using alot alot of chinese these days. That is probably due to myself missing the chinese lessons i had last time. Absence makes the heart grow fonder hahahahahahahaha

The FOM project really sucks. Is this project suppose to be a one week project ? I pray that this project would get over very soon. I have been scolding my group members. I’m sorry guys. Hmm, there are several things that have to be done ASAP.

1) Fundamentals of Marketing, PBL 2, the Singapore Flyer.

2) Proposal for the Outing for HCA @ the Airport.

3) Character Development (Outing for the Patients @ HCA) Really looking forward to it.

4) Character Development Essay.

5) Last but not least, my Examination coming up after the three weeks term break. I have Exam-o-phobia.

I hardly have time to do things that i like to do.

St. Gerard Majella, pray pray for me. Mary, purest of all creatures, Pray pray for me.

It’s tiring, isn’t it ?

Posted: May 16, 2008 by piusranson in Uncategorized

Yesterday, after realising that there is a change in venue for the Outing for the patients at HCA, i realised that the proposal for outing @ WCP is not going to be used anymore. But, it is a good venue anyway.

Two volunteers, Jonathan and Mastura, came to brief us about what HCA Hospice Care is all about. It was good. Jacqueline came too. =) .

We went to Recce the Airport yesterday. Hmm, let me see who came, Henry, Theresa, YanLin, Huiying, XiuHui, David, Weiru, Ranson, Meshach, JiaHao, HuaHan. Did i miss out anyone? Shin and Cheryl went today. The rest have not made a trip there. I realised i left out zhengda . lols

It is tiring. Went back with heavy eyelids, but i know i have to complete my economics tutorial (realised it wasn’t needed in the end).

Today, before lesson starts, i bought one banana and one Nescafe Original. Supposed to give me energy and keeping me awake. Doesn’t seem to work. Anyway, the 40cents Banana broke while i’m peeling it and it dropped on the floor. 35cents gone. i ate the sweet 5 cents.

Due to completion of EC CA last week, this week, we had 4hrs before the next lesson starts. We went out of school. Went to Marina sq, to …makan =.= before going to <i don’t know where> for huahan to fix his guitar. We went back school, but weren’t late.

During our train trip back to school, we had discussions about religion. I have no idea how it started. Realised that Catholics are referred to as the “Mary de”. While protestants are referred to “Jesus de” . Yes, from this, you know it is very wrong. LOL. Wanted to explain to them alot of things, but ya, i know people won’t like it.

In Catholicism, Mary is the Mother of Jesus. Jesus is God. Mary is therefore the Mother of God. However Mary is never of a higher status that Jesus. Mary isn’t any God. Catholics don’t worship Mary. We ask Mary to pray for us sinners. Just like we ask saints to pray for us. We ask the Blessed Virgin to pray for us for she is so dear to Jesus. Mary and the Saints are our intercessors.

And yes. Many of you will ask, why is having Mary in our important ? She is our Spiritual Mother. Who is the humble woman who obeyed God ? <Luke 1:38>, Who is sinless ? Mary, daughter of Anna and Joachim.

“When Jesus saw his mother, and the disciple whom he loved standing near, he said to his mother, ‘Woman, behold, your son!’ Then he said to the disciple, ‘Behold, your mother!’ And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home” (Jn 19:26-27)

Ok, let us look at the Catholic’s “Hail Mary/Ave Maria”

<< Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen. >>

This first part of the prayer in pink comes from <Luke 1:28> . Where Angel Gabriel appeared to Mary and said, “Hail, full of grace, the lord is with thee”.

Now, let us look at the second part in orange. It is taken from <Luke 1: 39-45>. This part is where Mary travels to meet Elizabeth. The child in Elizabeth’s womb leaped with joy upon hearing Mary’s greetings. Elizabeth said, “Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb”.

Fruit of the womb = Jesus. And indeed, Mary is the chosen woman for God to humble himself and reincarnate through the Blessed Virgin’s Womb.

Now, let us look at the words in red. We ask Mary to pray for us. Yes, she is the Mother of our dear Lord.

Now let us look at the Magnificat.

Now, let us look at the Magnificat in Luke 1:46-55

The Magnificat

46 And Mary said,
“My soul magnifies the Lord,
47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48 for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant.
Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
49 for the Mighty One has done great things for me,
and holy is his name.
50 His mercy is for those who fear him
from generation to generation.
51 He has shown strength with his arm;
he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts.
52 He has brought down the powerful from their thrones,
and lifted up the lowly;
53 he has filled the hungry with good things,
and sent the rich away empty.
54 He has helped his servant Israel,
in remembrance of his mercy,
55 according to the promise he made to our ancestors,
to Abraham and to his descendants forever.”

Yes, i copied this from my earlier posts. haha.

Many of us will ask where do we go after we die. In Catholicism, we believe there is Purgatory, Hell and Heaven.

Why is this word Purgatory appearing?

“At heart every Christian believes in Purgatory, no matter how vehemently they might denounce it by word. This is evident from the prayers they say almost unconsciously for their deceased friends and relatives. There is scarcely a Christain funeral without prayer; it is a case of actions speaking louder than words.

If there is no such thing as Purgatory then what is the point of prayer for the dead? If a soul is in Heaven it does not need to be prayed for; if it is in Hell, prayer cannot help it.” Adapted from here.

Purgatory is in fact a state of temporal sufferings. Below explains purgatory (i forgot where did i hear it from). :

Imagine you played soccer in a dirty muddy field, your body is literally covered mud from head to toe. You saw this beautiful palace, free from dust/dirt. It was so clean that it sparkles. You want to enter the Palace but you realised how dirty you are. You decided not to enter.

This explains Purgatory. God is like the palace. we are like the soccer player. We feel unworthy because we are sinful people of God. We wouldn’t want to meet God, with ourselves not being cleansed.

Met a extremely extremely good question last wednesday.

Why the Rosary and is it just mere repetition of the Ave Marias ?

I don’t have a good answer. But http://www.ewtn.com/Devotionals/prayers/rosary/ probably is  good website to explain.

N.B  The religious part of this content is purely for explaination.

Love

“Love one another as i have loved you”

“Love your neighbours”

We are taught to love since we are young.

We are taught to love everyone.

We are taught to love those who are against us.

Love.

This is the beauty of Love !

Interesting Question

Posted: May 3, 2008 by piusranson in Uncategorized

I was never holy and holiness is something i want to achieve. I was never knowledgeable in Catholicism and have the desire to be as knowledgeable in Catholicism as i can.

Someone asked me a very very interesting question. “Why bring in Catholic doctrines, Code of Canon Laws, importance of tradition into a Catholic conversation when we just have to take care of personal spirituality, why do u need to sound so profound? “ (though that wasn’t how it was phrased).

Let me begin by telling you how i came back as a lost sheep in the Catholic Church. I wasn’t even active in the Catholic Church in the past. Neither did i go for Mass every sunday. I was a Christmas Catholic, a Good Friday Catholic. =D. Yes, in the past. My sister brought me to Mass, as supposedly Mass was an obligation for all Catholics. From then on, week by week, i became awed by the Mass. It wasn’t only the Mass which leads me back.

It IS literally the DOCTRINES, DOGMAS, CANON LAW, TRADITION, SCRIPTURE which captures me back into the Catholic Church. THESE ARE PARTS OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH. If you want me to talk about Catholicism without stating these out, then i would say it is not Catholic.

These are the essence of the Catholic Church. Doctrines and Dogma GUIDES YOU in your faith. Tradition is something you can forgo? No way, without Tradition, will the Catholic Church still survive? Will the Roman Church still retains its APOSTOLIC ORAL TRADITION, that is passed down since the Jesus’ time, through the various councils and the Popes ? ?

Charismatics in Catholicism. Some people still fails to understand the need to balance it with tradition. I don’t oppose to Charismatics as it is seen as a way of Prayer. Thank goodness some Charismatic Catholics know how to balance it with Tradition. Just like Muslims, Would muslims still be muslims today if not for tradition ? This is how important tradition is, to retain the sanctity of Mass.

Is it wrong to tell people(catholics) about the various doctrines, dogmas, canon laws, etc ? Absolutely not. This is to GUIDE people.

In fact i got stunned with this guy’s respond.

As mother theresa says, “If you are good to others, others might think you are scheming, be good anyway”

Thus i make this conclusion, ” If you share things in Catholicism with other Catholics, people thinks you’re acting holy, be holy anyway”

And yes! Mr Roshan is a nice guy! He makes a good religious. =D.

In nomine patris et filii et spiritus sancti !
