Are there good Protestants out there ?

Posted: December 12, 2008 by piusranson in Protestantism, Uncategorized

Before i begin this post, i would like to clarify that both Protestantism and Catholicism are under Christianity. Protestants are uncommonly known as Unorthodox Christians. If you know what Unorthodox means, Good. Next time, you talk about Christianity be sure to further explain if you’re talking about Protestantism or Catholicism because they are not quite different, they are VERY different. 🙂

There sure are good protestants around! I have seen many good protestants but at the same time i have seen really bad ones. Most of the time, in this blog if i am mentioning about protestants, it can only refer to two things. Either i’m referring to Protestantism in general and their doctrines OR those protestants who always try to proselytise illegitimately, the same ones who think that “feeling good/having fun” is equivalent to worship and reverence, the same ones who thinks that the fuzzy-feeling they get is equivalent to God’s presence, the same ones that force you into a situation where you have no choice but to join them.

Arrogance if you may like to call it. Don’t know what arrogance is ? Wiki calls it excessive pride, calls it an offensive display of superiority or self-importance. What a perfect word to describe this group of people. Note that im not referring to the good protestants. Yes, i may not have the rights to say that these jumpings/going-crazy is NOT worship. What about reverence then? God feels worshipped because people are enjoying themselves?

Two days ago, i was at my paternal grandparents place. My two aunts were complaining about the protestant relatives that we have and of cause the other typical protestants we see in Singapore. These distant protestant relatives brought my aunt to their church and my aunt told me she felt super uneasy and decides to leave, before she can leave, she had people questioning her about why she leave. My aunt can even tell me that they had tactics (which protestants don’t realise how offensive it is). Anyway my paternal relatives are mostly Buddhist.

You may ask me then, how to evangelise without bringing them to church and not offend them ? The first thing you must do is to be able to convince them that your faith is true. But the fact remains that protestants (in general) are NOT able to convince you. They don’t even know where the Bible comes from. They don’t even know why they believe in the Bible in the first place. Because their so-called pastors tell them to ? This refer to believing WHATEVER their founder believes in. How then, can i believe that protestantantism is true ?

There are many good protestants that i’ve known but the good ones have to realise that the bad ones are tarnishing the image of Christianity.

Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis !

Creed of Pope Pius IV

Posted: December 12, 2008 by piusranson in Roman Catholicism

I, Yun YouQuan Steve Ranson, with a firm faith believe and profess each and everything which is contained in the Creed which the Holy Roman Church maketh use of. To wit:

I believe in one God, The Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the Only-begotten Son of God. Born of the Father before all ages. God of God, Light of Light, true God of true God. Begotten, not made, of one substance with the Father. By whom all things were made. Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven. And became incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary: and was made man. He was also crucified for us, suffered under Pontius Pilate, and was buried. And on the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and His kingdom will have no end. And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of life, Who proceeds from the Father and the Son. Who together with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, and who spoke through the prophets. And one holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I await the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

I also admit the Holy Scripture according to that sense which our holy mother the Church hath held, and doth hold, to whom it belongeth to judge of the true sense and interpretations of the Scriptures. Neither will I ever take and interpret them otherwise than according to the unanimous consent of the Fathers.

I also profess that there are truly and properly Seven Sacraments of the New Law, instituted by Jesus Christ our Lord, and necessary for the salvation of mankind, though not all for every one; to wit, Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Penance, Extreme Unction, Holy Orders, and Matrimony; and that they confer grace; and that of these, Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Orders cannot be reiterated without sacrilege.

I also receive and admit the received and approved ceremonies of the Catholic Church in the solemn administration of the aforesaid sacraments.

I embrace and receive all and every one of the things which have been defined and declared in the holy Council of Trent concerning original sin and justification.

I profess, likewise, that in the Mass there is offered to God a true, proper, and propitiatory sacrifice for the living and the dead; and that in the most holy sacrament of the Eucharist there is truly, really, and substantially, the Body and Blood, together with the soul and divinity, of our Lord Jesus Christ; and that there is made a conversion of the whole substance of the bread into the Body, and of the whole substance of the wine into the Blood, which conversion the Catholic Church calls Transubstantiation. I also confess that under either kind alone Christ is received whole and entire, and a true sacrament.

I constantly hold that there is a Purgatory, and that the souls therein detained are helped by the suffrages of the faithful. Likewise, that the saints, reigning together with Christ, are to be honoured and invoked, and that they offer prayers to God for us, and that their relics are to be venerated.

I most firmly assert that the images of Christ, of the Mother of God, ever virgin, and also of other Saints, ought to be had and retained, and that due honour and veneration is to be given them.

I also affirm that the power of indulgences was left by Christ in the Church, and that the use of them is most wholesome to Christian people.

I acknowledge the Holy Catholic Apostolic Roman Church as the mother and mistress of all churches; and I promise true obedience to the Bishop of Rome, successor to St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles, and Vicar of Jesus Christ.

I likewise undoubtedly receive and profess all other things delivered, defined, and declared by the sacred Canons, and general Councils, and particularly by the holy Council of Trent, and by the ecumenical Council of the Vatican, particularly concerning the primacy of the Roman Pontiff and his infallible teaching. I condemn, reject, and anathematize all things contrary thereto, and all heresies which the Church hath condemned, rejected, and anathematized.

This true Catholic faith, outside of which no one can be saved, which I now freely profess and to which I truly adhere, inviolate and with firm constancy until the last breath of life, I do so profess and swear to maintain with the help of God. And I shall strive, as far as possible, that this same faith shall be held, taught, and professed by all those over whom I have charge. I Yun YouQuan Steve Ranson. do so pledge, promise, and swear, so help me God and these Holy Gospels.

Lourdes Experience 2008

Posted: December 8, 2008 by piusranson in Life, Protestantism, Roman Catholicism

Date: 6th December 2008
Time: 2.00pm
Venue: Singapore Indoor Stadium

No, people. It is not another pop-star concert or another Hey-i-am-enjoying-myself-yet-praising-God-at-the-same-time “church concert” by the protestants. Yes, it is a Catholic event. This event was organised by the Singapore Order of Malta for singaporean Catholics to experience how it is like in Lourdes though not totally. I bet the people working in the Singapore Indoor Stadium must be wondering, “Hey! Are these Christians ? Why are they even not jumping or shouting ? how solemn ! ” This event marked the 150th Anniversary of Our Lady or Lourdes’ Appearance to a girl named Bernadette Soubirous (i hope i did get her name right). She didn’t even know it was the Virgin Mary, not even when Our Lady revealed her identity at the request of Bernadette’s Bishop with the words, “Que soy era Immaculada Councepciou” or “I am the Immaculate Conception”. The feast of the Immaculate Conception is on the 8th December every year. It is tomorrow!

Ian got the ticket for me. Met him at Kallang MRT Station before making our way to the Indoor Stadium. Initially it was raining but somehow the rain stopped to allow us to take the bus 11 across the road.

The Servant of God with Mary, a gift of God to us.

The Servant of God with Mary, a gift of God to us.

No, we don’t pray to Statues. We have Statues so that we can concentrate and focus. So stop accusing us of praying to Statues.
The Lady dressed in white and blue is my Mother. Mother of Christ! Mother of Mine!

The Lady dressed in white and blue is my Mother. Mother of Christ! Mother of Mine!

Saw that woman praying ? She is not praying to Mary, she’s asking Mary, her and HIS beloved mother to pray for her and with her to the Triune God.
I so love the AM behind his Cassock. It stands for Ave Maria. Look at that crown above it !

We crown her the Queen of Heaven, our Mediatrix and Co-redemptrix. Note that i only said i love the “AM” and not the piece of clothing.

Can you smell the incense from here? The smoke symbolises prayer rising up to God. Seldom, protestants use incense. They just need a microphone, a hall and envelopes. 😉
“From the angel’s hand the smoke of the incense went up before God, and with it the prayers of God’s people” (Rev. 8:3-5).
Oh mi Jesu !

Oh mi Jesu !

Saw the piece of host in the Monstrance? No, it DOES NOT represent Jesus. It is Jesus.
Ecce homo!
First we had Mass, followed by the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and then the recitation of the Holy Rosary in various Languages. The scene of people singing the “Ave! Ave! Ave Maria! Ave! Ave! Ave Maria!” just kept running through my mind. Memorable event for me.
When will the Pope come to Singapore ? Hmm…

It’s over … …
